Purchasing Patience

We live in a culture of immediate results. Everything must be easy, instant, or one click away. Whether it be Internet service or waiter service, it must be quick.

So too, we expect our personal growth to be fast and effortless. We imagine the path to acquire positive qualities is like the path to acquire everything else.

Despite our economic achievements, we still can’t purchase patience; despite our technological advancements, we still can’t download discipline. Real character growth requires two ingredients: time and effort.
